Rugs add warmth and coziness to a space, which is exactly the type of atmosphere you want to create in your bedroom. No matter how big your bedroom is, you can choose where to place the rug, or even place multiple rugs in one room. Read on for best practices for bedroom rug placement to help you get started.
Under the bed is an obvious but classic place to place the rug. When you fall asleep and wake up, there’s nothing more comfortable than stepping on a soft carpet under your feet. If you have a bench at the foot of your bed and a rug under the bed, consider sliding the rug down until all four legs of the bench can rest on the rug. If the size of the carpet is only enough to fit the two legs under the bed, it will do.
Choose a rug that extends 18 to 24 inches beyond the left and right sides of the bed. For a typical queen size bed, a five-foot by eight-foot rug or a six-by-nine-foot rug will do. However, if you want the main rug to use under the bed that is too small, you can always spread a larger, neutral-toned rug underneath it. Also, if you want to put all four legs of your nightstand on the carpet, you can opt for a larger size.
You can also put a small slide under the bench at the foot of the bed. The foot of the bed is the best place to place a treadmill with a slightly shorter length, such as a four-foot by two-foot treadmill. Just make sure it’s wide enough to place the bench at the foot of the bed on it.
The edge of the bed is the best place to place a long, narrow rug, such as a sheepskin rug or a vintage Persian rug. You can place it on the side where you normally sleep, or one on each side.
Most slides are two to three feet wide, which should be the ideal size for most bedrooms. In terms of length, try to find a bed that is almost as long as your bed itself. A five- or six-foot runner should be able to do this.
If you have a separate dresser in your bedroom, putting a small rug underneath it can create a cute vignette. This is a particularly good design choice if you place a wooden vanity on a wooden floor and the different wood tones clash with each other.
We recommend choosing a rug that is large enough to fit your entire dresser. The exact size will vary depending on the size of your dresser. Alternatively, you can opt for a small rug that exposes two to three inches of floor between the edge of the dresser and the edge of the rug.
When trying to determine where to place runners, consider the walking path you would normally take in your room. For example, if your bedroom has a master bathroom suite, place a slide that leads to the bathroom vertically.
The optimal size for a runner will vary depending on your exact bedroom layout. However, it is better to choose running shoes that are too long rather than too small.
Having a lounge area in your bedroom is a luxury that you should fully embrace. If you want to create the illusion of a room within a room, you can choose to place a separate area rug underneath the lounge area. Or you can opt for an oversized rug that covers most of the room.
If you choose an oversized rug for your seating area and bed, make sure it doesn’t touch the edges of the baseboards directly. You’ll need to leave at least a foot of space on the sides so that the carpet doesn’t flood the room.
Area rugs are great for fixing bedroom furniture. As long as the furniture has at least two legs to fit on the carpet and has about a foot and a half of breathing room on either side, then you may have chosen the right size.
However, there are always exceptions to this rule. When you deliberately break the rules, you get a room that suits you and your personal tastes. Also, don’t forget that your bedroom doesn’t even need a carpet to feel complete. If you want a more minimalist look, you might want to go this route.
You can place a rug under the bed, next to the bed, or at the foot of the bed. Runners can do a good job of directing traffic to the door.
Keep at least six inches of space between the carpet and the edge of the wall. This rule applies to large areas of carpet and carpets.
The 5×7 rug size is perfect for placing under a full-size bed or single bed. You can place it under a queen or king bed, but you may want to spread a larger rug underneath it.
